Ten More

“Ten more Wilson, ten more!”
That is my coach screaming into my ears, in the last 10 leg raises. That’s after 990 reps of other variations of crunches, hip thrust, bur-pees and core exercises. Oh yea, this is the warm down routine. The last 30 minutes that you’ve exhausted all your energy, and yet, you had to condition your body to dig deeper into your energy vessel. It’s like you, frantically searching for the last remaining drop of fuel to power up your car. (Great analogy for the current fuel price increase).
There I am, lying down on the pool of fat-tears, thinking how did I go through this today, and the many days before; and yet going back again to do the same thing tomorrow.

I guess, finding out that I can endure hard times and triumph gives me a certain high. It is these moments, I felt like I can achieve anything in the world, as long as I put my heart to it and follow through.
I do see traces of this energy at my current workplace as well. Yes, the consumer market is tough, but it doesn’t mean it’s impossible. The same principle in my fight training can be applied here. If a straight punch doesn’t work, there is still my elbow, knees and shin (In Muay, we practice the art of 8 limbs). Try your hardest, and pivot till you make it.
If perseverance is tough, try breaking it down to smaller steps. I don’t finish my 1000 reps at one go. I started with 10, then to a 100 when I got slightly stronger. It doesn’t matter even if it’s just 1 step at a time, as long as you keep moving to reach your 1000.
Do treat tough times as a beautiful challenge. You will flourish when you made it and live to tell the tale.
After all it’s only ten more steps, out of the millions you’ve taken.
You may also be only ten away from where you want to be.
